Now that we know some of the traits of Co-dependency, how can we break free from it?
šThe first step is acknowledging and accepting our behaviours and thoughts. This can be done by exploring the root causes and identifying links to our behaviour patterns. If we understand ourselves better, this can really support and enable us to make healthier choices and changes.
šThe second step is to see alternative perspectives, take accountability for your own mistakes, and try not to take things personally. Remember, it is not always about us, and we are not in control of other people's actions or feelings.
šThe third step is challenging negative thoughts. Is this thought based on facts? Where is the evidence?
šThe fourth step is to throw away/ put aside any thoughts that you can not change or control. This might mean acknowledging the feeling and thoughts, accepting and visualising, scrunching it up, and throwing it away.
šThe fifth step, self-compassion.
āØļø Finally, incorporate mindfulness and somatic techniques into your daily routine to soothe your nervous system and body of stress and anxiety.
What works really well is things like deep breathing and humming, rhythmic movement, dancing , walking, or singing.
